Supply & Installation · Fairfield County

Floors chosen in daylight, laid by hand.

We are a family flooring house, not a warehouse. Come sit with real boards under a north window, take five samples home for a week, and let our own installers — never a rotating sub crew — set them over a subfloor we have properly flattened. Hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, porcelain tile and carpet.

The swatch table

Six materials. Pick one up and see where it belongs.

This is the same conversation we have at the showroom table, minus the drive. Choose a material to see a finished room in it and the honest specification behind it — what it shrugs off, what it doesn't, and what it costs installed.

Why homeowners hire us twice

The parts of a floor you never see are the parts that fail.

A real in-home measure

We laser-measure every room, check your subfloor for moisture with a meter, and note the height of every door and appliance. The number we give you is the number you pay — no "site conditions" surprise on day two.

Dust-contained sanding

Our sanders run to a sealed vacuum unit parked outside, with zip-wall barriers at every doorway. Refinish a floor with us and you will not be wiping fine oak dust off bookshelves in March.

Subfloor prep done right

Nine out of ten "bad floors" we are called to rescue are bad subfloors. We flatten to within 3/16 in. over 10 ft, refasten squeaks, and pour self-levelling compound where it is needed — before a single plank is opened.

Lifetime installation warranty

For as long as you own the home, if our workmanship moves, cups at a seam or squeaks where it shouldn't, we come back and make it right. Written on the invoice, not buried in a brochure.

Twenty-one years, 3,400 homes, one crew list.

From first call to final walkthrough

Five steps, and you always know which one you are in.

  1. Consultation

Twenty minutes on the phone or at the showroom table. We ask about pets, kids, sunlight, radiant heat and how long you plan to stay — because those five answers rule out half the catalogue before you look at a single board.

  2. In-home measure

Free, usually within four working days. We laser every room, moisture-test the subfloor and slab, check door clearances and transitions, and photograph anything that will need attention. You get a fixed written quote by email within 48 hours.

  3. Samples at home

Five large samples, free, kept for a week. Showroom light lies. Lay them by the window in the morning and next to the lamp at night, walk on them barefoot, and put a chair leg on the one you love. Nobody has ever regretted this step.

  4. Installation

Material acclimatises in your home first — five to seven days for solid wood. Then our own installers arrive with floor protection, dust barriers and a written day-by-day plan. A typical 900 sq ft floor takes three to five days including prep.

  5. Final walkthrough

We walk the whole floor with you on hands and knees if that is what it takes, list anything you want touched, and don't invoice the balance until that list is empty. You leave with a care card, the cure schedule and spare boards from the same run.

No charge, no salesperson

Five samples, sent to your house, kept for a week.

Choosing a floor from a two-inch chip under fluorescent light is how people end up living with a colour they never wanted. Tell us roughly what you're after and we'll post five generous samples — real boards, real tile, real carpet — so you can see them in your own light before you commit a cent.

Posted within two business days. We never sell your details.

Installed price guidance

What floors actually cost, before anyone visits.

These are honest installed ranges — material, underlayment, labour, trim and haul-away of the old floor. Where you land inside a range depends on three things: how flat your subfloor is, how many square feet you are doing at once, and how many doorways, stair nosings and closets break the run up. Small jobs sit near the top of the range; open plans sit near the bottom.

Installed price ranges per square foot by flooring material, with typical lifespan and best rooms
Material Installed / sq ft Typical lifespan Best rooms
Solid oak, site-finished $9.00 – $14.00 50–100 yrs (3–4 refinishes) Living, dining, bedrooms, halls
American walnut & specialty species $13.00 – $20.00 50–100 yrs Studies, sitting rooms, feature spaces
Engineered hardwood, 4 mm wear layer $8.00 – $13.00 25–40 yrs (1–2 refinishes) Whole floors over slab or radiant heat
Luxury vinyl plank, 20 mil $5.50 – $9.00 15–25 yrs Kitchens, mudrooms, basements, rentals
Porcelain tile, standard format $11.00 – $18.00 50+ yrs Baths, entries, laundry, sunrooms
Wool-blend carpet with 8 lb pad $4.50 – $8.00 8–15 yrs Bedrooms, stairs, playrooms, offices
Refinish existing hardwood (dust-contained) $3.75 – $5.50 Adds 10–20 yrs Any solid or thick-veneer wood floor

Stairs are priced per tread $95–$180 a tread depending on species and whether we wrap the riser. We always quote them separately so the number is clear.

Levelling is quoted, not assumed If your subfloor needs compound we tell you at the measure and price it by the bag — never as a mystery line item after demolition.

Over 1,200 sq ft? Larger continuous runs cut our per-foot labour, and we pass that on. Ask about the whole-floor rate when you call (888) 555-0142.

From the homes we finished

Two customers, in their own words.

“Two contractors told us our 1962 subfloor was fine. Hearth & Grain put a straightedge on it, showed us a half-inch dip running the length of the hall, and levelled it before laying a board. Eighteen months of two labradors later there is not one squeak or gap.”

“I wanted hardwood in a kitchen with three children and a dishwasher that had already flooded once. They talked me out of it — sold me a 20-mil vinyl plank for less money instead. Who does that? It has taken a dropped cast-iron pan without a mark.”
