Data Security

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) became an all-encompassing privacy law in the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) on May 25, 2018. Its purpose is to improve data protection for individuals in the EU and EEA and supersedes the earlier Data Protection Directive.

More About GDPR

The GDPR applies to any organization, irrespective of its location, that processes the personal data of individuals located in the EU and EEA. Personal data refers to information that can be used to identify an individual, such as their name, email address, or IP address, among other identifiers.

There are several benefits to having a data center in the EU, including:

1. Consent: Organizations must obtain explicit and informed consent from individuals before collecting, processing, or sharing their personal data.

2. Privacy by design: In order to safeguard data, entities need to adopt suitable technical and organizational measures and develop their systems and processes with privacy of data as a top priority.

3. Data subject rights: Several rights are granted to individuals under the GDPR, including the right to access, rectify, and erase their personal data. Additionally, individuals have the right to object to processing and the right to data portability.

4. Data breach notification: In the event that an organization becomes aware of a data breach that could potentially jeopardize the rights and freedoms of individuals, they are required to notify the appropriate supervisory authority within a timeframe of 72 hours under the GDPR.

5. Data protection officer: As per GDPR regulations, organizations, including ours, are obligated to designate a data protection officer (DPO) who will oversee compliance with GDPR requirements and act as a liaison for individuals and supervisory authorities.

5. Non-Compliance fines: Failure to comply with the GDPR may lead to severe fines, with potential penalties reaching up to 4% of an organization’s worldwide annual revenue or €20 million, whichever is higher.
